Salvation | Grace vs Works

WORKS:
Matthew 19:16
The Rich Young Man
16
Now[t] someone came up to him and said, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to gain eternal life?”[u17 He said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he asked. Jesus replied, “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,[v] and love your neighbor as yourself.”[w20 The young man said to him, “I have wholeheartedly obeyed[x] all these laws.[y] What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be perfect, go sell your possessions and give the money[z] to the poor, and you will have treasure[aa] in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 But when the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he was very rich.[ab]
23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth,[ac] it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven! 24 Again I say,[ad] it is easier for a camel[ae] to go through the eye of a needle[af] than for a rich person to enter into the kingdom of God.” 25 The[ag] disciples were greatly astonished when they heard this and said, “Then who can be saved?”[ah26 Jesus[ai] looked at them and replied, “This is impossible for mere humans,[aj] but for God all things are possible.” 27 Then Peter said[ak] to him, “Look,[al] we have left everything to follow you![am] What then will there be for us?” 28 Jesus[an] said to them, “I tell you the truth:[ao] In the age when all things are renewed,[ap] when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging[aq] the twelve tribes of Israel.

Matthew 7:21-23
NKJV “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
ESV “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
NIV Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners,[e] practicing homosexuals,[f10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive,[g] and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Some of you once lived this way.[h] But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ[i] and by the Spirit of our God.

Catholics believe you have to be purified before you get to heaven.

GRACE:
Justice was satisfied at the cross.
Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

You can not do anything to earn everlasting life.

Paul says that all of my life’s work is SCUBALON – hot garbage.
Rome has perverted the gospel in such a way that it’s not Christ and his righteousness alone.
The Bible teaches that those who have faith in Jesus alone are accounted righteous apart from their works and God does not count their sins against them. (Romans 4)

Romans 7:14-20
14 For we know that the law is spiritual—but I am unspiritual, sold into slavery to sin.[a15 For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I do not do what I want—instead, I do what I hate.[b16 But if I do what I don’t want, I agree that the law is good.[c17 But now it is no longer me doing it, but sin that lives in me. 18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh. For I want to do the good, but I cannot do it.[d19 For I do not do the good I want, but I do the very evil I do not want! 20 Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer me doing it but sin that lives in me.
Paul is saying if you are going to try and live for God by the flesh, with your own ability and power, you can’t do it. Why? Because your sinful nature has programmed how you think and act. Even though you can affect it to a degree with behavior modification and other methods you are never going to totally master the flesh. That’s the reason you’ll get a new glorified body in heaven. It will come with a new soulish mental emotional part. (Rom 8:23, 1 Cor 13:12, 2 Cor 5:2-4)
You are never going to attain perfection in this life. No good thing dwells in your flesh (Rom 7:18) so it’s always going to fall short to some degree. However Jesus Christ is in your born-again spirit (Gal 2:20) and He is a good thing, Jesus is now your righteousness. 1 Cor 1:30 says that He “is made unto you wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
The Christian life isn’t just difficult: it’s impossible. It’s only through the Spirit of God that you can do all things (Phil 4:13)
You have to renew your mind to who you are in the spirit. As a born-again believer, you no longer have a nature to sin however, there is a law that’s working against your new nature. It’s called the law of sin and it always fights against you.
The law of the spirit of life has made you free from the law of sin and death. If you’re born again, you are not compelled to sin anymore if you’re still struggling, it’s because you have not renewed your mind to the new you on the inside.
